The Foundation for Alcohol Research and Education (your new arch nemeses) have submitted a recommendation to the government, calling for alcoholic beverages to be taxed on the volume of alcohol they contain (to the tune of $56.46 per litre!), as opposed to price.
At the moment, wine accounts for 40% of all alcohol consumed in Australia, but only 15% of alcohol tax revenue.
If the recommendation is put into action, the discrepancy between consumption and tax would even out a little; raising the price of a bottle of wine by around $3.80.
K. Rudd didn’t want a bar of the same recommendation in 2010, so now is the time to pray that Turnbull is a wino as well.
They can take our lives, but they’ll never take our wine!
